Fire in Palmerston.
The fire-bell rang out an alarm at about 7.30 last evening, when it was discovered that Mr C. Rosentual's cottage near the Brewery in Fitzherbert road was in flames. A crowd was soon collected on the spot, but the fire had gained too great a hold, and the efforts of those present were directed to saving the stable adjoining, which at one time was in danger. The fire was first noticed by Constable Manning, who promptly gave the alarm. The fire had however, made such progress that by the time the Brigade arrived on the spot the building had collapsed. Nothling whatever was saved. Mr Rosenthal was absent at the time, and he informs us that he can assign no cause for'the fire, everything being, apparently safe when he left. The building was insured for £75 in the Standard Insurance Company, but this amount will by no means cover the loss, as in addition Mr Rosenthal loses his furniture and effects.
