The above met last evening. Present — His Worship the Mayor, and Cre West, HawVins, Wylds, Abrahams, Park, Hutcheson, Bentley* Larcomb, J. The Foreman of Works, Mr O t Hill, reported that duringlhe month the following "work had been done : — Filling up hole and making crossing near Ikr Hush's Broad Street, also placing culverts for crossings and carting gmv. 1 for same, Rangitikei Line, and on Fiizherbert street, Had also taken up a cu'vert m College Street West, and placed it across Featherston Street, to take away the flood water. Had taken one out on Eangitikei Lme, and placed part of it m Fiizherbert Road drain for crossings. Had also fenced m the two ends of Bridge, Uangitikei Line, to keep cattle from going down the sides, as they were destroying the banks, and boarded up the drain m places and filled m wi»h stripping. Also fiUed m about five feet ot drain on Boundary Road, near Kawau Creek. Had repaired the approach L tjo Manawatu Bridge, which was giving way on the east side. Metailed about five chains footpath, Terrace Street; was compelled to raise the footpath a foot t* keep the water from going into people's gardens. The footpath Tiad been used as a road for carting on, the road being m a bad state and requiring metal. Had also boarded up the windows of the old hospital. Were at present filling,inc|he pit m 3?itzroy street, Had part of drain on Foxton line cleared out, but found they got blocked very aoon,. Mr Finnis, Rangitikei L'ne, had. complained of water flooding his place-; believed the water was inside his house last flood, and to avoid t bis would make the water table from Grey street to connect the one already made near Feather* too street, and to save labor thought if ha could employ someone for * day to plough it would be a great help. Thert is a corner section next to Mr Finnes's unfeuced, which many people drivt across causing it to be m a puddle. The contractor had completed the drain on Boundary road West, but part of the road had been washed away with the last fresh, The only thing that could be done is to have a small drain made on the south, side of the road similar (6 the one made by the Eoad Board, The water had conic from that side ;of the road and this method would be ..cheaper than putting m rul verts across the road. '"■«••■■ THE DEPUTY ASSIGNEE. The Mayor brought up the master of the Depaly Assignee being a relident of Bulls. He said it was exceedingly irkßome to those who had business with him that he should be resident at such a distance from the place where the District Court was located. It was decidedly mcon* vanient that the Assignee should be at a place which was not accessible by railway. The only way at pre« sent for communication with him was by wire, which was expensive, or by \o»t, which was slow. The records of the Court were kept m Pftlmerston, and thus part of the machinery was here a :d part twenty miles away. He ssggesied that, some st3ps should be takeu to represent to the Official Assignee, Mr CV-C. Graham, the desirability of his deputy residing m Palmerston: Cr King supported the suggestion, and said he had found it very inconvenient having to do business with, the Assignee at such a distance.
