NAPIER.
Dec 19. Mr Cook sub-editor of the Telegraph had a narrow escape from drowning this morning while bathing. He was being carried out by the current despite his efforts to reach the shore but Mr F. Howard, of the Post office, who heard his cries for assistance, swam out with a life buoy, aad succeeded m placing it over Cook's head, as he was sinking for the third time. He was then hauled ashore by a rope attached to the buoy. He had been m the .water three.>quarters of an hour. He is now m a weak condition.
