The ofk«- day (says Anglo Australian m the European Mail) I was conversing with a friend on the very evident advances now making m most of the Australasian Colonies to a balancing' of the sexes— an event not very far re». moved. It is evident that some persons here are extremely anxious to brins about this consummation, and, if half what I hear be true as to the systematic means now adopted or contemplated for famishing disconsolate Australian bachelors with wives, the m»le sex will not very long predominate m numbers. At Grimsby, m Osborne. street,, there is, at the present moment, an agency expressly . designed to provide the wives -for Australians, and great inducements are offered to charm away females who might otherwise be disposed to heed the more pro* saic, but practical, pleas of the various igents-General, who are likewise works ing to reduce the present disparity of the sexes at .the Antipodes. I name no names, for obvious reasons, and sincerely.trust the Griinsby and ether; similar agencies may do only good, bat I feari that, many women are disappointed In one instance, we . are ger-, iously told that on the arrival of one tA these consignments of marriagable females, colonists rush to the docks, ex« atnine the new arrivals instanter, and forthwith propose !
