Mutton Dull. Beef Quiet.

' Wellington. Lust Night. The Department of Industries and Commerce has received the following cablegram from the High Commissioner dated London, July Bth :— The mutton market is dull owing to the poor, demand. The average price to-day for Canterbury mutton (lightweights) is 4|d, other North Island mutton 4^d ; Canterbury (heavyweights) 4d, other North Island 4d. Holders are making every effort to push sales. The average weight carcases bring 3Jd. The lamb market is quiet. The stock of lightweight lambs is light and firmly held in a few hands. The average price to day is, Canterbury brand 5Jd; New Zealand lamb other than Canterbury s£d, legs 4*d.
The beef market is quiet, the average price to-day being, hindquarters New Zealand 3j|d, forequartera 2§d. The butter market is very strong. The supply does not meet the requirements. The average prico for choicest •New Zealand butter today is 101s; Danish, llle ; Canadian, 100s; Argentine, 100s.
There is no alteration in the cheese market since last week. • The wool market is firm at an advance, and wuh a general and active demand.
