PERSONAL.
The subcommittee of the Borough Council met yesterday morning and made the final selection of a custodian for the Opera House. Three of the applicants were brought before the committee and further examined. Finally the committee announced that its choice had fallen upon Mr H. Muller. Mr Muller is a Palmerstonian who has shown a natural capacity for theatrical advance work. Although a very young man, he has had very wide experience in his profession, having travelled practically the whole of Australasia at the head of some of the best known companies At a meeting of the Oroua Bridge Sports, Association, Mr Roa Larkin was presented wth a silver mounted cigar holder as a mark of esteem. The Chief Health Officer, Dr Mason, who is at his home, is slowly recovering from an attack of diphtheria. Beturn to complete convalescence may be tedious. Meanwhile, all Dr Mason's engagements are necessarily cancelled. John Brown, a well known old resident of Dunedin, dropped down dead from heart disease on Sunday night immediately after returning from church. Deceased was a building contractor in the early days.
