Derbyshire won the toss, and sent the -visitors in. Armstrong was bowled when the total was 24, and Hill retired when 45 was on the board. Noble was the next to go, and three wickets were down for 77, of which Trumper, who was playing a forcing game, had scored 35, though his innings was marred by chances at 115 and 30. Gregory waa caught at 98, and Trumper was next to go at 121. He had been batting 80 minutes and hit eight : fours.
