(Evening Post). The course proper, though heavy and yielding, is not so soddoncd as would bo expected afcec a prolonged spoil of wet weather like that lately experienced. The fittest-looking horses to the eye Were Nor- 1 West,1 Cavalry, and Comfort. Trumpery looked well, but did not movo with the precision that mirfcfed her ,at Wellington in the autuoin,; The first gallop of the morning was thitfof Royal Blue, who, went a mile on the outer edge of ihe grass track, fitovlime bfelt^, Imin -59sec. Kaitere started' with Magnificent and lost him, the round taking 2min 16sec. Btrathnll4rjy B*. Lyray and Grand Myrella worked on the sand, for three rouods. Togos ] sprinted JfpuV furlongs, the last two in 31sec. Blytliemaid and Tessera trotted and cantered, Biytbemaid doing especially well. Da la Ray trotted once round and then galloped another round on the grasß. Petticoat and.Fair Spec moved nicely for the last three furlongs of a v rttina. Shrapnel Shell beat Valois over five furlongs in ltnin 12sec. Levant was sent once round. He negotiatedthe sevtn furlongs in lmin 433ec. Defoe was worked lat half-pace. Exmoor did thren rounds, | finishing up at a Bound pace. Phaetonitis gave pleasure to his supporters by the manner in which he moved over two rounds, but he looks big for a loDg race. Patuna and Black Squall ran five furlongg in Imm iSsec, and six in lmin 29sec, finishing together. Gipsy Jack and Hydrant covorcd two rounds, Jumping four hutdles in five style. Coxswain, Bt. Lous and Nobility galloped five furlongs. At the three furlong post Tiwha joined in, and they ran home in ltnin 12960. Jewel Gun galloped twice round,, firie; at half pace, second a<\ solid -threequirter-pace. Captain Shannon and Banzai took lmin 13sec to cover, five furlongs. Banzai was beaten by three lengths, Bardonic sprinted four furloDgaV. Dauber, looking well, covered two rounds at. half pace, llnndaome Rose, under a strong pull, did two rounds at threequarter-pace, reefing for his,head. Asteroid rounded the circle at threequarter speed. He looked light, and bad apparently done a lot of work beforo arrival here. Natuku and .Te 'Kainui walked to the four furlong post and ran home in 50 sec. It was a ding-dong gallop, Te Kainui finishing in .front. Perchance and Tetai covered six furlongs, the last five in lmin 14sec. Galahad sprinted three furlongs. Mango, alone, did five furlongs in lmin 10£ sec, and should run well today on the strength of this. Recreation and Error took the sand track, and left six furlongs behind-in lmin 20aec, Error surprising the touts by downing O'Neill's speedy sprinter. Hukaaka did once round alone at three-quarter pace. Kremlin with Hinerewa ran five furlongs in lmin llsec, and with ordinary luok should win a race ere long. Tonderghie, Southern Cross, and Lyrist strode a mile together, Lyrist winning in lmin 16sec Waimate went once round at three quarter pace. Rose Madder ran a n.ile— seven furlongs in lmin 4Ssec and the last' five in lmin 11 4-ssec. Clipper went once round the Band track well within himself. Crusoe and Comfort were given ■teady work. Fontenoy and St Lyra coverad two rounds in fairly good time, and finished full of dash. Lurcher did three rounds on the grass. Cure got to the end of five furlongs in lmin 17see. Aotea went once round and rattled home fall of dash. Pushful saw twice round the ring under easy sail. Claremont was hustled along for three furlongs, and proved' himself a sprinter. Ngatarua negotiated a mile, the last seven furlongs in lmin 48sec, ridden out. Valitna went twice round and finished fast. Cavalry jumped two fences well, with Young in the saddle, after which he galloped twica round the grass ring, moving pleasingly. Taxpayer, with T a para, got to the end of a mile in good time. Nor' West covered two roundd at fair paoe, and pulled up strong. Trumpery did two rounds at three-quarter pace, and finished fairly well. Wet Reef, after trotting, ran home from the four furlong mark in lmin 59sec. Petticoat and Fair Spec were given fast work, and all moved as if they liked it.
