Empire Mass Migration
But Not Just Now ! * ____ informative debate IN COMMONS '
United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. Received Friday, 7 p.m. LONDON, Dec. 8.
A brief debate on migration arose in the Commons on tho motion of Sir Shirley Bonn urging tho Government to securo the co-oporation of tho Domin ions in comprehensive schemes. He thought tho time opportuno to press the subject on businoss lines. Mr. A. A. Somcrvillo, seconding the motion, suggested a board of five business men to survey Empire opportuhi tics. Ho himself favoured ebartored companies with Government guarantees.
Captain Guest advocated mass migration of Empiro communities under the supervision of tho Stato until tho migrants were settled in their now surroundings. Mr. J. H. Thomas expressed general agreement with tho purpose of the motion. The truo Empire spirit was not lacking to-day. There never had been below 50,000 peoplo ready and anxious to go overseas, but tho Dominions had tho same problem of unemployment as ourselves. Nothing was moro ridiculous than to send peoplo thero at present, but the machinery should bo kept ready. He believed there were 32 societies engaged in tho promotion of emigration, and ho felt sure they could moro effectively work as one organisation. He hoped tho day was not far distant when the Dominions would be able to welcome those anxious to go there.,
