Charge of Alleged Watching and Besetting
ANOTHER CASE BEFORE THE COURT A further case of alleged watching and besetting in connection with the freezing workers’ dispute came before tho Palmerston North Magistrate’s Court yesterday, a remand being granted. Messrs. J. H. Stevens and T. R. Lees were on the Bench, tho gallery of the Court onco again being crowded. Eric PnTcas Anthony, a slaughterman, aged 30, was charged that at Longburn, on December 9, with a view to compelling freezing workers to abstain from doing a certain act they had a legal right to do —proceed to duty at the work —wrongly and without lawful authority watched and beset Longburn freezing workers on Foxton line.
Mr. McLeavey appeared for accused and Senior-Sorgt. Whitehouho for the police, asked for a remand until December 16. Another case of tho kind was scheduled for that day, ho pointed out.
Tho Bench granted tho remand, and on Mr. McLcavey’s application fixed bail at the same as tho previous caso—£2oo in accused’s own recognisance and two sureties of £IOO.
