Meeting of Y.W.C.A. Board of Management
At the monthly meeting of the Y.W.C.A. Board held in the hostel yesterday there wero present Mesdames Sinclair (in the chair) n Barnett, Phillips, Pointon, Mouldey, Eutherfurd, Oliver, Griggs, Misses Forrest and Cameron and the general secretary, Miss Ashton. Apologies were received from Mesdames Greig and Bierre and Miss Scottcr. Tho matron reported that there had been 2(5 casual guests in the hostel during t.lio mouth besides tho number of permanents. Eeports from the house and finance committees were read and various recommendations from them adopted. Miss Ashton reported on tho work of tho month as follows: — <‘The world’s week of prayer for the Y.W.C.A. was celebrated in the association here by two services—a combined one for young people at the Y.M.C.A. and one for women members conducted by the Eev. D. J. Davies. These services wero both very well attended. The Girl Citizens have been busy during the month preparing a mystery play, ‘Eagerhcart,' for the end of’ the year. This, together with .another nativity play and carol singing will be given in aid of conference funds in All Saints' Parish hall. A summer programme is being planned to include tramps, splash parties and picnics. The Girl Citizen and senior club conference will be held this year at Waitaki Boys' High School, Oarnaru. We hope to bo able to send a representative delegation from out community here. The beautiful buildings and grounds of the Waitaki High School have been lent to tho association through tho courtesy of Mr. Milner, the rector. Miss Audrey Macrae, who has lately returned from abroad, and Miss Stevenson will lead these conferences. A secretarial training school will bo conducted by Miss Stevenson, national general secretary, after the conference at St. Margaret's University Collego in Dunedin, for a fortnight in January." Tho secretary concluded her report by expressing her very grateful thanks to board and committee members and Counsellors of Girl Citizens for the loyal and untiring service they have Tendered tho association throughout this very difficult year. During a break in tho business of tho afternoon the matron served afternoon tea.
