Roadside Grass Plots in Feilding

SHOULD BE PROTECTED Mention was made at Monday’s meeting of tho Eeilding Borougti council of the attention now being given to the grass on the roadsides of Eeilding streets by ratepayers, such efforts at beautifying the thoroughfares of tnc residential areas being approved by the Mayor and councillors.

It was mentioned that a- number of grass plots had been damaged through horses being ridden over them and in discussing this question the Mayor (Mr. C. E. Taylor) stated that he had been closely watching the Palmerston North Court proceedings wherein the city by-law protecting these plots was tested. He understood that the Appeal Court was to be asked to decide the validity of tho by-law and if it were upheld there Eeilding might be obliged to introduce a similar measure to protect the beautifying work undertaken by property owners of the town. There was no doubt, remarked Mr. Taylor, that many of the streets wero now looking very beautiful and it would be a great pity if the plots wero damaged without efforts being mado to protect them.
