BATTLE OF THE BARGES ON THE SEINE. —Tightly -packed barges obstructing the Seine on August 22 at Conflans, St. Honorine. The bargees were on strike, complaining that they did not receive proper treatment from the authorities. Mobile Guards and a detachment of marines from Cherbourg, armed with fire hoses, stormed the barges and eventually cleared the river for traffic.
