WESTPORT’S REQUEST TO THE GOVERNMENT Per Press Association WESTPORT, Last Night. At a meeting of the Westport Chamber of Commerce this afternoon it was resolved: “Owing to tho reduction in the consumption of steam coal during recent years, there arc hundreds of miners, artisans, waterside and other allied workers on the West Coast reduced almost to destitution; the Westport Chamber of Commerce, therefore, urges upon the Prime Minister, all Ministers and M.’sP. to give immediate and favourable consideration to the proposals from London capitalists to manufacture by-products from the small and unsaleable bituminous coal at Westport and Greymouth.”
