Death of Maori King

EXCURSION FARES FOR TANGI ATTENDANTS. - Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Last Night. Arrangements havo been made to grant excursion fares on tho railways to Maoris travelling to Huntly to attend a tangi for the late King Te Rata Maliuta Tawhaio Folatau Te Whereivhero.

King Maliuta was born at Hikurangi on May 18, 1880. On the death of his father, who was a member of tho Legislative Council from 1903, lie was proclaimed king of the Waikato Maoris. He was the fourth Maori king. In 1906 lie married a chicftainess of the Ngatikoroki named Te Uranga, and in 1914 visited England, being received in audience by the King and Queen.

King Maliuta exercised considerable political influence.
