Judicial Appointment
Sin TRANK BOYD MERRIMAN (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, Sept. 30. Tho King has approved that Sir Frank Boyd Merriman, Solicitor-Gen-eral, be appointed President of Probate, Divorce, and Admiralty Division of the High Court in place of Lord Mcrrivalc, who has resigned; also that Mr. Donald Somervell, M.P., be appointed Solicitor-General in succession to Sir Frank Boyd Merriman, and that the honour of knighthood be conferred upon Mr. Somervell on his appointment. Lord Mcrrivale is 78 years old, and has been President of the Divorce Court since 1919.
By-election Necessitated (British Official Wireless.) .Received Monday, 8.30 p.m. RUGBY, Sept. 30. The appointment of Sir Boyd Merriman, the Solicitor-General, as president of the Divorce Court, in succession to Lord Merrivale, necessitates a by-election in Rusholme, Manchester, where Sir Boyd Merriman had a large majority over Labour and Liberal candidates at the last election.
