Bell-Ringer's Long Record

Despite the fact that he is 34, Mr. James Barnett, of Northallerton, Yorkshire, is captain of the Northallerton parish church bell-ringers, and is believed to be one of the oldest, if not the oldest, church-bell ringers in the country.

Starting his career as a ringer when 16 years of age, Mr Barnett has been an active campanologist for over 68 years. With the exception of three years, from 1884 to 1887, when he wgs ringing at Monkwearmouth, he has been attached to the church at Northallerton,
