Manager Honoured
FAREWELL AND PRESENTATION. Prior to his departuro to Palmorston North as auctioneer for Messrs. Dalgety and Co., Ltd., Mr. Iv. B. Garland, who has been manager of tho Ashburton branch for over seven years, was honoured at a farewell function held on Friday evening. The gathering was one of tho most successful of its kind held in Ashburton for some years. There was a large attendance of members of stock and auctioneering firms and country clients, several having travelled long distances. Mr. J. T. Thomas presided.
Mr. W. A. Fleming proposed the toast of “Our Guest,” and on behalf of those present made the presentation of a silver cigarette case and a cheque for a substantial sum to Air. Garland. He referred to Air. Garland’s popularity among the stock agents and farmers and made mention of his sterling character and ability as an auctioneer. Messrs. R. D. Robinson anad J. Campbell also spoke, expressing the opinion that his career in the stock business would bo followed with great interest by his friends in Ashburton. Mr. Garland responded.
