Thrilling Mystery to Screen At Kosy Soon
PARAMOUNT’S “CRIME OF THE CENTURY” FOR NEXT WEEK “The Crime of the Century,” Paramount’s mystery-drama done in reverse order, with the crime confessed before its actual commission, begins at the Kosy next Wednesday. Stuart Erwin, Wynne Gibson and Frances De read the cast, with Jean Hersholt, Gordon Westcott and David Landau in principal
supporting roles. The story centres round Hersholt, a doctor, who walks into a police station one night and begs the detectives on duty to lock him no. He has planned a perfect crime for that evening, he explains, and if the officers won’t take him into custody he will commit it. The policemen, impressed, accompany him to his home. And there, while they look on. not only the murder he has planned, but a second one, takes place. A few unimportant-looking clues offer the only solution to the mystery. Stuart Erwin, as a police reporter, and Miss Dee, as the doctor’s daughter, combine to solve A unique feature is introduced in the film. Half-way through, there is a 60second intermission, during which the various clues are briefly reviewed, and the audience is offered an opportunity to solve the crimes. Miss Gibson is cast as one of the victims, with Landau as one of the policemen called in on the case.
Richard Barthelmess is already planning his next holiday, according to advice received from the Warner Bros.’ First National Studios, Hollywood. As usual the vacation will be spent in travel. This timo Barthelmess hopes to visit Australia and New Zealand, accompanied by Mrs Barthelmess and their children, Mary Ha.y Barthelmess and Stuart Sargent.
