The death has occurred at Christchurch of Lieutenant-Colonel H. S. E. Hobday, aged 75. He w r as a prominent tigure in the volunteering days.' Mr. L. Aschman, a member of the literary staff of the Christchurch Times and Star, has been appointed to till the vacancy on the head office staff of the United Press Association, Wellington (states a Wellington telegram). Professor Boyd-Wilson, professor of modern languages, was a visitor to Palmerston North yesterday, when he conducted the oral examinations in French and German of a number of students who are presenting themselves for degree in those subjects. He returned to Wellington yesterday afternoon, having visited the Wairarapa and Hawke’s Bay districts last week. Squadron-Leader M. C. McGregor, of Palmerston North, mado a solo flight to Wellington and back yesterday, and was given a warm wclcomo by pilots and members of the Wellington Aero Club. This was his first cross-country flight since the accident last December and occupied one hour in each direction. He flew the Manawatu Aero Club’s Moth plane ZK —ABA and clearly demonstrated that he has fully recovered and is back to his old form. The club hopes to havo him back as instructor very shortly.
