Mollisons Again Baulked
PLANE DAMAGED IN TAKE-OFF FOR BAGHDAD. United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. ONTARIO, October 3. A message from Wasaga Beach states that in attempting to take off on Tuesday morning for Baghdad, the undercarriage of the Mollisons’ plane, “Seafarer II,” was twisted when caught in a criss-cross wind which plunged the machine downward when it was some five feet in the air.
The mishap occurred after the plane had covered approximately two miles in its second attempt to rise.
Tho couple left the machine, which was carrying COO gallons of gas. Both were greatly disappointed. The damage is estimated at only a few dollars, but Mr Mollison intimated that the take-off conditions here were unfavourable and ho would not attempt it again although tho weather conditions over the planned route were favourable. They will possibly seek another field later should weather conditions warrant the attempt on the long-dis-tance flight. Slight Chance of Hop-off on Thursday ’PLANE BEING REPAIRED Received Wednesday, 8.15 p.m. TORONTO, Oct. 3. A faint chance remained to-night that tho Mollisons would try to hop off on Thursday, but it is doubtful whether conditions over the wholo 6000 miles will remain as satisfactory as on Tuesday. Meteorologists said there was no indication of any drastic change. Tho ’plane is being repaired.
