Russell Street School
COMMITTEE HOLDS MONTHLY MEETING Mr. C. N. Eabono presided at the monthly meeting of the Eussell Street School Committee last evening. Others present were Messrs J. T. McDavitt (secretary), E. G. Spraggon, T. Simpson, F. T. Vasey, C. S. Trask, and JM. Gordon . An apology was received from Mr. W. H. Brown.
Mr. F. C. Campbell (headmaster) reported a roll of 231, which was a school record Attendances for the week had been 192, 197 and 203. The 200 mark had not been reached since July 28. The Department had again agreed to the elimination of the average for the second term, on account of prevalent sickness. There were still about 30 absentees daily, but conditions were improving. Mr. Campbell himself had been absent for some days on account, of illness. During the month the chairman, secretary and architect of the Wanganui Education Board had visited the school. Miss Valentino, a departmental officer had been another visitor during the month. The report was adopted. Messrs. Vasey, Rabone and McDavitt were appointed to attend a meeting of the Combined School Committees’ Association to be held next week. The headmaster and secretary were authorised to procure an Arbor Day speaker. It was decided to make application for the use of the Terraco End baths for the coming season. The chairman advised that owing to widespread sickness among the children, it had been deemed expedient to cancel the school ball. Messrs Gordon and Vasey were appointed a visiting committee*
