The Attack on Dolfuss
ASSAILANT’S NAZI CONNECTIONS Unitod Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. VIENNA, October 4. It is now stated that, all the family of D'ertil (previously cabled ns Vergil), D'r. Dolfuss’s assailant, .including his stepfather, are Nazis. Dertil’s Belief in His StepFather LOOKED TO HIM FOR DICTATORSHIP. VIENNA, October 4. Dr. Dolfuss spent his 41st birthday, to-day, in bed, reading congratulatory telegrams on his escape from death. Though the police have arrested five Nazi acquaintances of Dertil and claim to have found Nazi literature in his home, Dertil protests that the crime was not inspired by the Nazis, but solely by his desire to attract attention to his stepfather, Dr. Guenther, as “the only man who can save Austria.” Dr. Guenther is the chief Nazi propagandist in Styria, but Dertil is not in close touch with him.
