Palmerston North Branch Of League of Mothers
MEMBERS OF MOTHERS’ UNION ENTERTAINED A return visit was paid to tho Palmerston North branch of tho League of Mothers yesterday by members of All Saints’ branch of the Mothers’ Union, there being a very largo attendance at tho Empire hall to enjoy the delightful programme which had been arranged by tho League choir.. The visitors wero greeted on arrival by two of the vice-presidents, Mrs. Wilkinson and Mrs. Ballinger.
The president, Mrs. G. G. Hancox, was in the chair, and after opening the meeting with the League prayer, extended a warm welcome to the members and their friends. She expressed gratification in the presence of so many members of the Mothers’ Union and referred to tho recent exchange of visits of which she had heard glowing accounts, remarking that inspiration and new ideas were always to be gained by moving about and seeing how other people did things. The performers who entertained so happily were:—Miss Grace Taylor (pianoforte solo), Mrs. McLachlan, Mrs. Findaly, Mrs. Ebbett and Mrs. Young (vocal solos); Miss Joyce Findlay (violin solo), Mrs. N. V. Ballinger (elocutionary items), Mcsdames Niven and Findlay (vocal duct.) Tho choir also contributed a “Welcome” song and two glees. Owing to the length of the programme no encores could be allowed but in response> to insistent applause Mrs. Young was prevailed upon to give an encore. Mrs. B. F. Barlow played tho accompaniments. Apologies were tendered on behalf of Mcsdames .Free, Coleman, Wass, Cribb, Brace and Young.
The large attendance necessitated serving tea in the supper room where fragrant lilac and other spring blooms were artistically arranged on tho small tables, Tho tea hostesses were Mesdames Bennett, Saunders, Nielson, Young, Davidson, Cribb, Ferguson, Jenkins, Wilson, Stewart, Palmer, Griffiths and Field.
Mrs. Hancox reminded members that the November meeting would take the form of a “handcraft” afternoon, when there would bo a competition for tho best thrift article.
Mrs. G. Y. Woodward returned thanks or; behalf, of the members of the Mothers’ Union for the afternoon which all had enjoyed, her remarks being endorsed by acclamation. Airs. Mowlom thanked the performers and Mrs. McPherson tho tea hostesses, and Airs. Hancox voiced her indebtedness to the choir for the fine programme presented. The recital of the League prayer and the National Anthem concluded a most enjoyable afternoon.
