Veiled Threat to Feilding Borough Engineer

BY FEILDING RELIEF WORKER The abusive aiul insolent attitude of n Feilding' velief worker to the Feilding borough engineer, Mr T. K. Hay, who supervises the relief wo.rk in the town, was the subject of a letter from Mr Hay to yesterday’s meeting of the Feilding 'Unemployment Committee. In ■this communication Mr Hay sot out

that the man in question had given considerable trouble, but had been treated with great leniency until tits situation could bo no longer tolerated. Last month the worker concerned had 'asked for permission to go to Wellington, as he had prospects of work there. Tills was granted, but Mr Hay subsequently found out that instead of going to Wellington the man had gone to the Marton races. Further inquiry elicited the fact that the man had not made any arrangements to go to Wellington, and his application was an untruth. In consequence of this Mr. Hay.

stood tho man down for a day. Some | few days later the man came in and abused Mr Hay for some minutes, ending the interview with the statement that the borough engineer was trying to “put one over him,” and that he never forgot a bad turn, and further, that “he was with a. man :in Wellington when a man named Matthews was stabbed in the back.’’
