THE BATTLE OF THE BARGES.—Recently the bargees of Paris went on strike, complaining that they were not receiving good treatment from the authorities, and as a protest drew their barges across the River Seine and blocked all water traffic. For more than an hour and a-half 200 mobile guards and a detachment of marines were kept at bay, and it was only when fire-hoses were used that the river was cleared. This picture shows the line of barges blocking the stream.
