J. B. Crawford and V. McGrath, of the Australian Davis Cup team, arrived at Auckland yesterday and played exhibition matches in the afternoon. Crawford, who at 23 is the virtual champion of the world, has had five seasons of continuous tennis and has been medically advised to take a Test_ but he says he cannot see his wav clear to do that, so he has decided not to play in singles matches for a time. He will have less than a fortnight’s spell before preparing for the visit to Australia of the English team, which will play in five Tests and three championship tournaments. Crawford declined to talk about himself. He said he thought Australia had better young players coming on than any other country. Australia's chances of lifting the Davis Cup next year were very good and a team would probably challenge again in the European zone.
