The pins on terraced greeng 'were m positions unfamiliar to the contestants, and it was noticed that on the sixth and eighteenth greens, where t’ne pins were on the top of terraces, the players frequently failed to gauge the position correctly. No better indication of this was afforded than in the case of J. H. Young, the youthful Titirangi. player, who should have been well acquainted with his home course, for he took four putts on the final green after his second shot had reached the middle of the terrace.

Menzies failed to get threes at the fourth (155 yards) and seventh (170 yards) holes, but he chipped dead at the fifth (500 yards) and eighth (30S yards) for birdie figures. One ball hit a spectator on the full at the sixth (430 yards), but in spite of this he holed in five. At the eleventh (161 yards) he recovered from a sand bunker to notch a three, and he holed a long putt for a four at the twelfth (467 yards). Another nicely-judged chip gave him. a birdie, four at the seventh.
