HEMP AND TOW PRODUCTION FOR SEPTEMBER. From Our Own Correspondent. The official figures of hemp and tow graded at the various ports of the Dominion, including Foxton, during- the month of September, are as follow, the figures for the corresponding month of last year being shown in parenthesis:— Hemp. AUCKLAND: — Good fair 12, high fair 13, low fair 26, common 65, rejected 1, condemned 13, Total 130; WEDDINGTON:— Good fair 109, high fair 271, low fair 4, common 17, rejected 72, Total 526; BDUFF: — High fair 28, low fair 1, common 475, rejected 72, Total 576; Totals: Good fair 121 (12), high fair 623 (705), low fair 172 (552), common 631 (371), rejected 169 (101), condemned 33 (nil), Total 1729 (1771), a decrease of 42 hales. Tow. AUCKLAND:— First Grade 1, second grade 8, third grade 3, condemned 4, total 16; WELLINGTON:— First grade 3, second grade .21, total 24; BLUFB: Second grade 40, third grade S 4, condemned 7, total 133. Totals: grade 4 (SO), second 69 (113)- ,blrc grade 87 (194), condemned 11 (nil), total 171 (357), a decrease of 216 bales. Band of Hope. Mrs J. Ross presided over tho monthly meeting of the Combined Band of Hope. Ensign Armstrong delivered an interesting address on Pluck, to an attentive gathering of children. During the evening the following items were contributed by the children:—Songs, Thomas Murray (2) and Bobby Fraser; recitations, Betty and Dot Young, Betty and Joan Fryer, Helen and Winnie Murray, Gene Fraser, Marjorie Walker, Joyce Clark, Bobby Fraser, John Fryer, Freddie Murray and Douglas Clark. Dorcas Society. The Rev. H. S. Kenney presided over tho monthly meeting of the Foxton Dorcas Society on Monday. Others present were Mesdames Mairs, Procter, Symons, Brown, Bennett, Barron and the secretary (Mrs. F. A. Mason). It was reported that nine parcels had been received and a similai" number sent out during the month. Fire Board Meets. Mr A. H. Clerke (Wellington) presided over the quarterly meeting of the Foxton Fire Board. Also present were Messrs L. A. Hutton (Wellington), John Ross, M. E. Perreau, J. K. Hornblow and the secretary (Mr. R. Rangiheuea) The superintendent (Mr. H. J. Reid) in his report stated:—“The brigade is at full strength at present with 16 men and one messenger. . During the quarter* there was one call to an outbreak in a workshop in Whittaker street Eight practices were held with an average attendance of 13.5. The engine and equipment are in good order.” The carrying out of necessary repairs at the station was lert in the hands of the local committee. The financial statement covering the period April 1 to September 16, as submitted by the secretary, gave details of receipts and expenditure as under:—Receipts: Credit balance at 1/4/33, £29 9s Id; contributions from insurance companies, £lO7 16s 8d; from Foxton Borough Council £l2B 15s 6d, from the Treasury £l4 5s 2d; refund of stamp duty, £6 11s Id; refund sinking fund, £lO 4s 3d; total £297 Is 9d.
