Feilding Horticultural Society
ANNUAL REPORT The Feilding Horticultural Society will hold its annual meeting this evening when the following annual report will be presented:—
In presenting the annual report of the Feilding Horticultural Society for the year 1933, we have fjo express our thankfulness that in the year of the greatest economic stress the society has steadfastly continued its part in the civic life of Feilding. Our exhibitors have brought along such beautiful blooms that each show is just an' inspiration to all interested in horticulture to produce from their own garden something equally beautiful. To those ladies and gentlemen we arc grateful. An outstanding feature of the two shows hold during the past year was the great interest exhibited by the students at tho various schools in Po:lding. In all the classes specially provided for them the competition was very keen. This year also inaugurated the introduction of their own secretary and stewards for tho children’s sections, tho offices being filled most efficiently by students from tho Agricultural High School, namely, Atisses Gwen Humphreys, Gladys Beating, Doreen Hunt and Air. Alan Smithers.
Tho same generosity has been experienced from, our local business firms as in the past, without these “trophies” we could not carry on. The same band of ladies and gentlemen rally round the society with cheerful help and any “new exhibitor” will always find someone to show them jusl, how to place their exhibit. Financially, the year has not bean successful, but the society has a small reserve which has been able to meet all liabilities.
To the members of the High School and Orchestral Society for their kindness, our grateful thanks are due.
In thanking one and all for (heir past interest, in the show wo .would urge all who have anything in their garden of beauty to como and support; tho show. Remember that when you have an entry you have a vested interest and “the show” becomes “your show.” There arc a number of ladies and gentlemen, who have retained a lively interest in tho Horticultural Society since its beginning. This year has its loss to us in the death of Air. Joseph Weightman, who was one of the original members. His kindly smile and helpful words will Jong be remembered by many ama.teurs. The society expresses its deep appreciation of this gentleman’s work in the interests of horticulture.
It is with deep regret we have to report the serious illness of both Air. Lumsden. and Mr. Fifield whom we shall miss very much from their usual places among us. The meetings of the society throughout the year have been held by the kindness of Aliss Karsten, in her room above tho Beresford, for which the society tenders its thanks. To the Press also we extend our thanks for the help that they so generously give us
