SPORTS QUEEN CANDIDATE Tie committee furthering the candidature of Miss Molly Nathan is representative of all sports bodies and many novel ways of raising money are being arranged. Next Saturday's gymkhana at tie Showgrounds should attract a large attendance. Retailers' Queen The supporters of .’Miss Edna Boon have arranged for a dance on Tuesday night, and they are preparing a few surprises for the public. Plunket and Nurses’ Queen Miss Joun Harnett has opened tho campaign most, auspiciously by having her colours flown at the top. Tho Nurses, Plunket and Red Cross Societies and other bodies supporting Miss Barnett can be relied on to do thenpart in tie contest. Public Services Queen On Saturday afternoon the committee of Miss Kathleen Richards gave the public a pretty good idea of their strength and this candidate’s chances arc looking very bright indeed. The Farmers’ Queen The farmers are entering into the contest with their usual enthusiasm; meetings are being called and Miss Russell has supporting her a very determined section of the community. Something is in the wind and an announcement is due any minute. AEROPLANE VERSUS STEAM. ROLLERS The race held on Saturday over a course from the intersection of Victoria, avenue and Church street, to a point opposite the police in Church street, between- a team of road rollers and an aeroplane, resulted in a handsome "win" for the rollers. The first past the post, a two-ton footpath roller, was driven by Mr Williams. The second place was gained by tho 15fconner, driven by Mr Phelps. Also started: Mr Simms (12-ton steam roller) and Mr Peters (seven-ton petrol roller). The winner was presented to the Pujblic Services Queen (Miss Kathleen Richards), who decorated him with a crown of laurel leaves. The field was supplied from the City Engineers' department. Plunket Queen Heads Poll for the Carnival PUBLIC SERVICES NEXT. The first announcement as to tho positions of the queens in the carnival being conducted at Palmerston North, in aid of the Central Relief funds, was given on Saturday. The voting figures, however, will not be disclosed until the final stages of tho carnival aro reached. Each day the colours of the different queens are to bo flown from the flagpole on the band rotunda in the Square. The positions announced this morning were:— Plunket and Nursing Services Queen. Miss Joan Barnett (red and green flag) 1. Public Services Queen, Miss K. Richards (royal blue and gold flag) 2. Retailers' Queen, Miss Edna Boon (red and white flag) 3. Farmers’ Queen, Miss Joan Russell (green and gold flag) 4. Sports Queen, Miss Mollic Nathan (green and white flag) 5. To-day, when tho second announcement will be made, the leading queen will receive 50 votes free.
