Golf at Hokowhitu

OCTOBER STROKE COMPETITION The Manawatu Golf Club played its October stroke competition at Hokowhitu on Saturday afternoon. The weather conditions were not very favourable, there being a blustering wind and later some showers. The best cards retumod are as follows: —

In the quarter final, of the club championship, J. M. Taylor sprang a surprise by defeating A. E. Ekstedt in a dose game. Taylor is a very steady player and the feature of his game is the line he keeps off the tees and through the greens. It is on very rare occasions that he is off the “straight and narrow.’ The championship game was played during the week-end and it was havd-fought, all the way, Taylor getting the decision, .l-up, on the home green. Ekstedt was 3-down and 4 to go but he got an eagle 3 on the loth, but he failed to make up the leeway. Another game was that in which K, S. Glendiuning defeated >S. W. R-ap-ley, and Glendinning now meets O. H. Williams for the right to play Taylor in the semi-final, In the other half of the draw, J. W. Kodden beat Ron Hatch, and his next opponent will be the title-holder, L. Seifert. Good Card Wins 4-ball Bogey ' There was not a very big entry for the 4-ball bogey which was played during the week-end, but it would have taken something to have beaten the winning card —10-up—handed in by L, Seifert and N, G, Ingham. They were 11-up with one to play but lost the last hole. L. Seifert carried off the honours of the single with a card of l-up on the “Colonel.”
