ONE SEASON’S 'VALUE OF FAMOUS SIRE The French correspondent of an English paper has it on reliable authority that a leading breeder-owner in that country sets such valuo on Blandford that he offered £6OOO for the use of the horse for the season of 1934. He proposed to confine the services of the horse to his own mares in France. Blandford is the sire of the Derby winners, Trigo and Blenheim, and of the Irish Derby winner, Harinero. Blandford is by Swynford fromßlance, by White Eagle, by Gallinulo. Blandford was a high-class racehorse, and the best three-year-old of his time. He could go fast and staj. Blanche is out of Black Cherry,_ by Bendigo (first winner of the Eclipse Stakes) out of Black Duches, famous as the dam of Bay Ronald, sire of Bayardo (sire of Gainsborough and Gay Crusader), and Dark Ronald, sire of Magpie, Son-in-Law, Dark Legend, and Ambassador (a successful sire in America). Black Duchess was byGalliard (son of Galopin). Blandfonl’s list was full in 1930 at 300 guineas, in 1931 at 400 guineas, in 1932 at 400 guineas, and in ' 1933 at 400 guineas. His value for a single season in England would thus bo anything from 12,000 to 16,000 guineas, according to the number of mares allowed. Forty mares would represent 16,000 guineas. It would, therefore, probably take a much bigger offer than that to induce tho owner of the CloghTan Stud, Ireland, to let the horse go to France for a season.
