"Her First Affair" Is Now Current at Palace Theatre

IDA LUPINO, SISTER OF STANDBY, IS FEATURED Two of the most beautiful screen stars ever seen in films are both in the new Sterling film production, “Her First Affair,” which is the current attraction at the Palace theatre to-day. They axe Ida Lupino and Diana Napier.

Miss Lupino occupies the starring role, and is incidentally a member of tho famous Lupino family and gives every sign of carrying tho family banner to even greater fame; while Miss Napier, who has appeared only in supporting Toles in. previous British films, on her acting merits alone, was well worthy of the starring role she occupies in this production. They are two contrasting types of beauties, especially selected for the roles they occupy by Allan Dwan, director of the production, on account of Ida Lupino’s blonde loveliness and Diana Napier's . brunette fascination. Both are polished stars and demonstrate excellent acting abilities in the far from easy roles they are called upon to portray. However, all the attraction of the film is not centred alone in these two stars. An excellent yet entirely different story has been utilised, and in it there has been made room for sonic of the most delightful comedy and scintillating “settings” seen in a British film for a long timo. Harry Tate and Muriel Aked supply the choice brand of comedy, while George Curzon and Arnold Riches supply the more virile manliness required in a film. Tho story is of a modern day miss who wanted to be too modern until she experienced “Her First Affair.”

A new screen team, William Powell and Ann Harding are co-starred in “Double Harness,” the story of a woman who makes marriage her career. It is an adaptation by Jane Muriin of this season’s London stage success by Edward Poore Montgomery.

Dorothea Wieck, who will make her Hollywood film debut in “White Woman,” with Herbert Marshall and Charles Laughton, will appear ward in a version of “Cradle Song,” the Spanish play which ran for over 100 performances at tho Fortune Theatre, London, in 1926. <J> <?> <s> Myrna Loy is taking the place of Jean Harlow as the heroine of M-G-M’s [“bombshell,” tho story of a Hollywood star. Certain incidents of the .story, it was felt, might have been taken to refer to well-known episodes j of Miss Harlow’s own career if she had l played the part.

Gloria Blondell, the young and pretty sister of Joan Blondell, has been placed under contract by Radio. Her first picture will probably be “Sweet Cheat,” in which Bill Gagney, brother of the famous James Cagney, will appear. <s> <*> <s> <s> Katharine Hepburn will star in a Radio version of John Galsworthy’s story, “The Apple Tree.” Tho film will be made in Hollywood and not in England, as originally planned. <B> <s> <£' Seven different rhythmic musical guises of one melody form a novelty treat offerffed in EKO Radio ’s romantic musical feature film, “Melody Cruise,” with Charlie Ruggles, Phil Harris and Greta Nissen in leading roles. The melody is, “Isn’t This a Night for Love?” and it is presented as a love ballad, barcarolle, apassionato, symphony, fox-trot, waltz, and finally as the inspiring melody for a sensational ballot staged on ice skates at Lake Arrowhead, famous Californian resort.
