Romantic Comedy In An Eastern Setting
RAMON NOVARRO IS STARRED IN “A NIGHT IN CAIRO.” “A Night in Cairo,” a romantic comedy depicting the adventures ot a philandering Arab who falis in love with an Englishwoman, will commence a season at the Regent theatre this evening. Ramon Novarro, the popular Latin star, portrays the role of the Arab. Myrna Loy plays opposite him. Reginald Denny, as Myrna Loy’s dull English fiance, is said to have a role even more amusing than the part he played in “Private Lives,” and added laughs are assured by the presenco in tho cast of Louise Closser Halo in another of her typical maid roles. In “A Night in Cairo” Novarro is seen as au Arab guide who plays up to the susceptibilities of elderly women starved for romance, and pockets a pretty profit for his pains. When he falls in love with the alluring Myrna Loy, he finds himself running into a more difficult proposition, and is called upon to use all his resources as a roguo and Oriental schemer in order to achieve his end. The author, Edgar Selwyn, has permeated this story with no end of adventurous incidents, with tho heroine narrowly escaping from a forced native marriage and being involved in a romantic escape across the desert sands. Scenes of the Nile country, with its cclobrated pyramids give the tale a picturesque background in keeping witb its •colourful and adventurous plot. Tho film affords Novarro an opportunity to sing a number of Arabian love songs, a special musical score having been arranged by Herbert Stothart. C. Aubrey Smith, Edward Arnold, Blanche Frederic!, Marcelle Corday, Hedda Hopper, and Leni Stengel are seen in supporting roles.
