Y.M.C.A. Gymnastic Carnival

A BRILLIANT ENTERTAINMENT Three hundred and forty enthusiastic young people of our own city will take part in the 11th annual gymnastic carnival of the local Y.M.C.A., to be held iu the Opera House this Friday, Saturday and Monday. To those who have had the pleasure of witnessing the displays of previous years, the mention of the dates will be quite sufficient, for they aro sure to be there, but there arc many citizens who have not had the opportunity to be present so far. To such wo say that this display of physical culture is second to nono given in New Zealand, and is a revelation of health, strength, grace and beauty. The varied items and interludes, the original and colourful costuming, the rythmic music, all combine to make a most spectacular entertainment. It is a revelation of what gymnasium training is doing for tho youth of Palmerston North. Tho staging of the whole carnival would do credit to any professional company and from the grand march to the finale, there is not a dull moment.

A special feature of this year's display will be the clever and brilliant costuming. The costumes of the ladies and girls, which have been made and designed by themselves, together with the lighting effects, promise to make a wonderful show. Added to these are the combined items, when tho men. in their white flannels, and the ladies in their brilliant and manycoloured frocks, mingle to make a pageant of colour and graceful beauty.

A full orchestra of first-class musicians under the conductorship of Mr. I. Speight will render appropriate music so necessary for time and precision which goes to give that finish so characteristic of every item. The box plan for tho season will open at the Central Booking Office to-day, and patrons are reminded that tho curtain rites punctually at 7.45 p.m.; also that home-made sweets will be on sale at the doolr by the ladies’ auxiliary of the Y.M.C.A.
