From Our Own Correspondent Women’s Institute. At the monthly meeting: of the Kairanga Women’s Institute held on Tuesday afternoon, Mrs. C. W. Turner presided over an attendance of about 30 members and visitors. Tho matter of assisting with projects in connection with tho queen carnival contest was discussed when members generally were willing to help. Enthusiasm was expressed over the proposed historical pageant in January and all are willing to take part, jt was decided to affiliate with the Longburn group whose first meeting eventuates on November S. Seed potatoes for the potato growing competition were distributed to the members who are participating. The ladies present were keenly interested in the instructive demonstration upon the sewing machine and the us?e of extra parts so ably worked and carefully explained. The competition for a plate of canes (three Varieties, two of each) resulted as follows: Mrs. C. W. Turner 1, Mrs. J. Burrneister 2, Miss Z. beamy 3. The awards in the sorviette folding competition wont to Mrs. C. W. Turner 1, Mrs. McLelland 2, Miss D. Capp 3. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdaines D. Martin, H. E. Turner and Miss Edna Small. Hostesses for the November meeting will be Mosdames C. W .Turner, P. Leamy and McLelland. The competitions for the November meeting will be. for open jam tarts (short pastry). A blindfold potato peeling competition will also be conducted as well as a written competition. Mrs. Churchill, of Bulls, will give what promises to be a most instructive address upon "Drama” and the same lady has generously consented to give a demonstration and Instruction on folic dancing.
