MELBOURNE WOOL MARKET PRICES IN SELLERS’ FAVOUR. MELBOURNE, Oct. 11. Competition was spirited in the Melbourne wool sales, and all wools sold in sellers’ favour when compared with rates ruling last week. For many lines values increased by 5 to 10 per cent. About 95 per cent, of the 9200 bales submitted to the sale were sold. The record price for the season of 221*.l per lb. was realised for Victorian merino. LONDON WOOL SALES PRICES KEEP, STEADY. ■ LONDON, Oct. 10. Offerings at the London wool sales to-day were 7103 bales, including 3217 bales New Zealand. About 4030 bales were sold. There was good competition at steady prices. Merinos, greasy , from Queensland sold 14 id per lb.; scoured merinos, Queensland, made 2G4d; scoured Victorian sold at 254 d. New Zealand greasy crossbred, “Gross and Dot” made 13 highest, 10 3-Sd average; New Zealand slipe, halfbred lamb, “Belfast,” sold 16d highest and 13R1 average. BRITISH FINANCES (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, Oct. 10. Latest Treasury returns show that ordinary revenue for the current financial year up to October 7 amounted to £287,225,723. At the corresponding date of last year the amount stood at £280,725,641.

Ordinary expenditure to date for the current year totalled £350,670,238, which is about £33,500,000 less than the total ordinary expenditure at the corresponding date of last year. SOUTH AFRICAN, LOAN UNDERWRITTEN LONDON, Oct. 10. The South African conversion loan of £13,000,000 bearing interest at 2$ per cent, and issued at £OBI, maturing 1955,65, has been underwritten.
