Success in to-morrow ’a Tima.ru Cup would not ha.vo taken Polydora Into line for a penalty in the New Zealand Cup, but it would have had to be her last win if a penalty was to bo avoided, and apparently her connections have preferred to wait for another race somewhere nearer Cup day as a windup for her Cup preparation. The value of to-morrow’s race to the winner is £145, and this would have litfed Polydora’s winnings since the appearance of the weights to £360. Tho conditions for the Cup provide for rehandicapping of winners of a race worth £2OO to the winner, or of races worth .£4OO to the winner. As it is now, Polydora has won only £215 with her Kurow and Dunedin successes, and, like Chide four years ago, she may sort out two more races yet to win and still avoid a rehandicap. If she were to have won at Wash dyke she would have brought her total too near tho £4OO mark with her third success after the appearance of Cup weights, WORK AT AVONDALE. AUCKLAND, Oct- 12. Palm Queen beat Quietly and Camella Horn over half a mile in SOsee. The first named went exceptionally well, Hampton Park ran .the fastest halt of the morning in 49 4-ssec. Considering he was wide out, it was an excellent effort. AWAPUNI WORE, Princess Doreen seems to have suffered no ill-effects from her race at Otaki last week, for she has gone on the right, way since. She was sprinted at Awaguni yesterday; morning and drew away
from her stable-mate, Catalogue, at enu of five furlongs cut out in 1.5. The flags wore well out and the time was not bad,- tho filly going along very nicely over the last bitinflation was duo to leave Sydney for Flew Zealand yesterday, but it is stated that Alan McDonald is not- coming back with Mm, but is going on to Alelbourno to do some riding over tho fences.
S. Anderson will be riding at Masterton on Saturday and his mounts include Rene Belle, Golden Chance, Swift and Sure and Pheon,
The hurdle horse, Henry of Navarre, was sent over the schooling fences at Awapuni yesterday morning and he gavo his usual efficient display. Riotous, the winner of the hurdles tho first day at Otaki, was given a similar task and ho jumped very confidently. High Society had Tudor as a companion in a bout over the fences and it was Tudor who gave tho better exhibition.
W. J. McDowell will be at Masterton on Saturday and ho will ride To Bangitumau, Normanby and Bczaine. L, Faulkner, from, the same stable, will pilot Peggy’s Pride. WILL AWAIT MOTUKABAEA, Polydora did not accept for the Timaru Cup, as she is to be produced only once more before the New Zealand Cup, and that race, it has been decided, will be the Akaroa Handicap. The acceptors, all but one of them an acceptor also for tho big November handicap, should provido one of the best contests seen at Washdyko, and the absence of Polydora. has made the issue very open. Rebel Bong will be the favourite. Good races may bo expected also from Rocket and Minerval, who have not yet been produced this season.
At So guineas Prostration was bought by Air. H. W. Aloss at tho dispersal sale of the late Air, W. E. Bidwill’s horses. By Lord Qucx from Termination, he is an improving three-year-old, who scored his first win at Otaki, and is sure to be heard of in better company, WINNING JOCKEYS’ LIST.
