A Press Association telegram records tho death of Rev. Percy Temple Williams, of l’aihia, Bay of Islands; aged 07. Mr A. Leslie, of Tcmuka, has been appointed postmaster at Lower Hutt, in succession to Mr A. N. Wallace, who was appointed to Blenheim, reports a Press Association telegram from Wellington.

At its meeting yesterday tho Makorua Drainage Board passed a motion of sympathy with Mr J. H. I J . Liggins, a board member, who is confined to his bed with influenza. Leave of absence was granted.

Guests at the Hotel Imperial include Mr L. Pearey (Christchurch), Mr D. McPherson (Nelson), Mr Thompson (Wellington), Mr F. Sliaml (Wellington), Mr R. Goghill (Dunedin), Mr L. Cogiiill (Dunedin), Mr L. McKenzie (Waipawa).

The brass tablet in memory of Sir William Martin, first Chief Justice of Now Zealand, was dedicated in St. Mary’s Cathedral, Auckland, by Archbishop Avcrill. Sir William took a leading part in founding the original St. Marv’s Church in 1860.

Colonel R. C. Allen, D. 5.0., a brother of Sir Stephen Allen, of Morrinsvillc, arrived at Wellington by the Tamaroa from England on Wednesday afternoon, accompanied by his daughter and young son. Colonel Allen has been Home with his family for five years, and has come back to reside in New Zealand again.

Mr 11. P. Richmond, a well-known barrister of Auckland, returned by the Tamaroa on Wednesday. His mission to England was to represent the underwriters in the appeal to the Privy Council in the Hawke’s Bay earthquake cases. Ho has been away front the Dominion since March, and apart from his travels in England he visited Austria.

At the annual dinner of the Palmerston North Chamber of Commerce last evening, honours were accorded Mr F. W. Furby, Chief Postmaster, who .is on transfer to Christchurch. The chairman (Mr A. .J. Graham) extended congratulations and voiced the regret Palmerston North felt at his departure. Mr Furby had been a very helpful member of the Palmerston North Chamber of Commerce, and the best of wishes were extended him in his new sphere of activity. Mr Furby returned thanks.
