Garrison Band Committee Meeting

Colonel J. H. Whyte presided over a meeting of the Garrison Band Committee, there being also present Messrs J. P. Cowlishaw, W. C. Loudon, H. Haybittle, H. Brooker, E. Shackleton, J. Creighton, A. V. Middlemiss, W. R. Kells and Conductor C. Pike. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs G. Short and L. Binden.

The Manawatu Boy Scouts’ Association wrote seeking the assistance of the band on tho occasion of the rally and display to be held on the aicernoon of Labour Day.—The matter was left in the hands of the conductor to ascertain how many bandsmen would be available that day.

The conditions governing the Robert Cup were drawn up as under: (1) That throe solo competitions be held during the year, points to be allocated tho competitors; (2) that points be awarded for efficiency at each recognised performance of tho band; (3) that points be awarded for attendance at practices and other performances; (4) that points be awarded for neatness and correctness in dress at all parades and performances. It was decided that a gold medal be awarded the winner of the trophy each year. Conductor Pike was appointed adjudicator. The question of tho renovation of the uniforms of the bandsmen was considered, Conductor Pike being instructed to bring down an estimate of the cost at the next meeting The chairman was asked to confer with the secretary of the Manawatu A. and P. Association with a view to securing a stall at the forthcoming Show.

Although the venue of the next contest has not yet been announced, it was decided that the band be entered in the A grade section.
