When Nimblcfoot won in IS7O tho race was run two days late, and in 1916 Sasanof won a postponed race, which was decided on the Saturday following Cup day. Messrs Stead and Luttrell, tho owners of Sasanof, had cause to consider themselves especially fortunate. A few days before the first Tuesday in November tho horse’s condition was so unsatisfactory that his connections' had almost given up hope of his success, and were oven doubtful whether he could start. The postponement, which was announced on tho cvc of tho Cup day, enabled Sasanof to bo treated, with such good effect that he completely overcame his disabilities.”

It ■ is also proposed to run all six furlong i races on the course, and to cut out the elbow of tho present straight track, which will still be used for five fur-long-races. ! MANAWATU TROTTING CLUB • ANNUAL REVIEW 1 Tho report of tho president of the * Manawatu Trotting Club to be presented to members at the annual meeting reads:—“The annual racing fixture of the club was held on March 15 in beau ! tiful weather and was a very enjoy- • ablo gathering both from a racing and j a social point of view. Tho club for I. the first time used the win-and-placc t totalisator, and there is little doubt that this mode of betting is popular with both owners and the public. There ' was a small increase in the totalisator j turnover, and also in the gate takings, j but the totalisator expenses were un- ) avoidably higher than last year. I re- ’ gret that there is another slight drop , in tho members’ subscriptions, but ) trust these will improve as times get better. The club’s contribution to the ■ Government by way of taxes, including dividend and stakes tax, was £407 Is Sd. Tho tenancy which, tho club held in connection with the training track on Boundary road expired at tho end of tho season, and could not bo renewed, and the club was obliged to give, up same. The dato fixed for the next ■ annual trotting meeting of the club is March 14, and with better times in sight your committee can look forward . for success in tho coming season. On behalf of -your committeo I desire to thank the Ashhurst Racing Club, and all officials wbo assisted the club during tho season for the ablo manner in which they carried out their various duties.’’
