AUSTRIA’S FIRST CAFE
On the occasion of the Autumn Fair, which was held in Vienna from September 3 to 10, a big exhibition was opened at the Botundo Buildings in the Prater, to celebrate the 250th anniversary of tho Vienna Cafe. When the Turks retreated after tho siege of Vienna in 1083 they left behind them several hundred bugs of coffee —a commodity which was then unknown to tho Viennese. A Pole named Kolschitshy was givon this coffee in recognition of his services as a spy during tho war. This man has attained immortality by opening tho first cafe in Vienna.
The perfectly-preserved kitchen or Koischitshy' first cafe. “To the Blue Bottle,” a specimen of an up-to-date cafe, with all the techincial achievements of modernity, and all the industrial productions connected with cafes, was shown at tho exhibition.
