Shipping Strike Settlement Imminent
PREPARING FOR RESUMPTION OF SAILINGS. EFFECT OF HOLD-UP ON TOURIST TRAFFIC. United Press Association—Rv Electric Telegraph. —-Cony r lent. Received Tuesday, 9.50 p.m. SAN FRANCISCO, Feb. 1. A shipping strike settlement is regarded as certain and the steamship lines have started booking passengers and accepting cargoes in expectation of resuming operations on Thursday. The Matson Line proposes that the Monterey will sail on February 10 Inless delayed discharging cargo. She will probably sail again immediately on arrival in Sydney to make up tho week lost on her sailing schedule. Tho company has instructed that preference be given to Australians and New Zealanders and anticipates tat every berth will be occupied. Mr. Arthur O’Connor stated the strike had ruined what promised to be a record summer for tourists though the majority will go later.
