Historic Taranaki Jersey Oaks
PREVIOUS COMPETITION. The interested spectators crowding the show ring at the Feilding Show on Tuesday included Air. D. O’Sullivan, of Inglewood, who won the £SOO Taranaki Jersey Oaks competition thirteen years ago at the Ilawera Show with Alcadow--vale Perfect Day, a daughter of Sultan’s Daisy, tho world’s record cow for all breeds for the five years 19191924. This notable lieifcr of Air. O’Sullivan’s which is now 16 years of ago was by Perfection’s King, an outstanding sire, and she is still producing and breeding. The Taranaki Jersey Oaks, in which Air. O’Sullivan’s exhibit was successful, was the last important competition of the kind and in this event Air, O’Sullivan secured £295 in prize money, taking the first prize of £250 as well as several subsidiary prizes. The entries for the competition totalled ISS but only 22 or 23 came forward for tho final judging. Second prize money in this event was captured by tho well-known Feilding district Jersey breeder Air. Cyril Dermer, with Waipiko Jolly. Discussing his success at Hawera, Mr. O ’Sullivan said that Aleadowvale Perfect Day as a junior produced 5741b5. of fat and as a senior her production rose to Glllbs. while at one stage of her career she produced three calves within twenty-four months. Aleadowvale Perfect Day was an outstanding success and overshadowed all competitors including E. L. Horn’s noted champion of tho day Kuku Brooklet. Her sons and daughters achieved fame in the show ring at the Waikato shows and in the Afanawatu. Feilding Jersey interests will be interested to learn that Air. J. Evans, of Feilding, is tho proud owner of a daughter of Aleadowvale Perfect Day.
