Royal Agricultural Society
MEETING OF WESTERN DISTRICTS COMMITTEE.
The Western Districts Council of the New Zealand Royal Agricultural Society met during the course of the Feilding Show this week. Those present were Messrs. James Knight (Fcilding), in the chair, Jos. Batchelar (Linton), R. O. Dalrymple (Bulls), A. Hunter (Hawera), A. Marshall (Marton), and Hugh Kissling (Palmerston North), hon. secretary. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs. H. C. Sampson (New Plymouth) and H. J. Lancaster (Levin). The Manawatu A. and P. Association advised of their acceptance of the offer to hold the Royal Show in Palmerston North next November. The letter was received and the various district representatives agreed to foster interest in the fixture and in encouraging breeders to exhibit stock there. Messrs. L. J. Wild (president of the Royal Agricultural Society) and R. McCay (secretary) were present by invitation. Mr. Wild addressed the meeting briefly on the matter of side-show licensing. He pointed out that the legislation and necessary machinery was now complete, and stressed the point that show associations, particularly tno larger ones, should adopt immediately the required by-laws and enforce the issue of licenses for side-shows. It was decided to hold the annual meeting of the Royal Agricultural Society’s Western District Council at the Hawera Winter Show in May. The ballot to decide which councillors are to retire was held and arrangements made for the forwarding of ballot papers to the quarters concerned. A number of other matters of internal interest were also dealt with.
