From Our Own Corresponflcu.l. On Friday evening of last week Mr and Mrs J. Hearsey entertained some 150 friends at the local hall, the occasion being the celebration of the coming of age of their daughter Lola. Mrs Hearsey received her guests wearing a gown of wine georgette and lace, and was assisted by the guest of the evening, who was charmingly gowned in a rrock of beige lace over vieux roso satin. Miss Joan Hearsey was attired in a dainty dress of pink taffeta. The hall was brightly decorated with coloured streamers and | flowers and a gay prorusion of balloons. Dancing was the chief pleasure of tho evening, novelty dances being won by [ Miss J. Sherriffs and Mr A. Morley, Miss I J. Morley and Mr T. Benioni (lucky spot), and Miss V. Berryman and Mr J. Hearsey (Monte Carlo). Mr C. Sherriffs rendered several vocal solos. Supper was served and at the bewitching hour the birthday cake, adorned with 21 lcewpies, was cut by the guest of honour. Mr C. C. Hills, on behalf of those present, congratulated Miss Hearsey and spoke of her popularity. Toasts and musical honours were accorded Miss Hearsey and Mr and Mrs Hearsey and family, appropriate replies being made. Mr Hearsey then presented his daughter with a large key which was subsequently autographed by the guests. Paper hats and squeakers were distributed and in gay carnival spirit dancing was continued till a late hour. Miss Hearsey was the recipient of many beautiful and useful gifts. Igglesden, georgette; Misses Matheson, I. Hearsey, blue velvet; K. Hearsey, brown and whites pot crepe de chine; M. Ryan (Wellington), blue marocain; G. Thompson (Wellington), green taffeta; B. Ennis, lavender marocain and mulberry velvet; J. Sheriffs, black organdie; P. Partergaff, scarlet taffeta; B. Parker, floral crepe; H. Hills, vieux-rose taffeta; J. Campbell, checked taffeta; W. Chamberlain, floral georgette; L. Campbell, floral taffeta; M. Bodell, grey ensemble; J. Klee, floral crepe; V. Berryman, black georgette; M. Foss, floral taffeta; V. Zurcher, green crepe And lace; I. Moreley, floral crepe de chine; T. Holder bottle-green sillc velvet; M. Rowland, green moire taffeta. Personal and General Mrs F. Vautier, with her twin daughter, Is staying with her parents. Mr and Mrs B. Marley. Mrs M. Richardson, accompanied by her two daughters, is holidaying at Paraparaumu beach. Misses P. Voss and N. Voss are on a holiday visit to Plimmerton. Mrs J. McEwen has been on a holiday visit to her daughter, Mrs Pedersen, of Hlinatangl. Mr and Mrs J. Setvercnsen. of the Hawke’s Bay, have been recent victors of Mr and Mrs N. P. Nielsen. Miss R Pulling, of Auckland, a former resident, of the district, will shortly be in tho district again as the guest of Mr and Mrs E. P. Nielsen. , At a committee meeting of tho local Women's Institute held recently, it was decided to postpone the annual picnic until the schools resume. At the hall committee meeting held this week, it was decided to hold a garden party this month. Mr and Mrs W. Fell have kindly offered tlielr grounds for the occasion. It was further decided to cooperate with the local Women’s Institute as at previous functions.
