Referee in Hectic Mixup

Louis Knocks Out Brown SENSATIONAL FINISH TO BOXING MATCH United Pres* Association— By Electric Telegraph.— Gopyrlaht. Received Thursday, 9.25 P-m. KANSAS CITY, Feb. 18. Louis knocked out Natie Brown in tho fourth round of a scheduled tenround bout. There was a wild finish similar to that in a wrestling bout, with the referee, Mr. Bates, also floored. While a crowd of 14*000 roared, Louis methodically sent rights and lefts to Brown’s faco in the first 40 seconds of the fourth round until a hard right dropped Brown into a dazed sitting position. Attempting to raise himself to his feet, Brown clutched Bates’ leg and pulled the latter down to the floor too. Bates arose and awarded fhe fight to Louis on a technical knockout but the official time-keeper informed him he had completed the count while Bates was down so the referee changed the decision and credited Louis with a knockout.

Iu the first round Louis left his corner slowly and circled round. A light left from Brown glanced Louis’ chin. The men clinched and then Louis led with two lefts but did no damage. Brown crossed -with a right to the head and the pair exchanged left jabs. Then Louis hooked a hard left to the body and Brown a right to the ear. In the second round Brown came out fast and carried the fight to Louis. There was a brief flurry of punches before Louis backed Brown to the ropes, but he fought clear. Louis began to connect with short lefts and rights to tho chin.

In the third round Louis stalked Browu but was unable to land an effective blow. They exchanged body blows at close quarters and Louis again connected with hard lefts and rights to the faco as Brown came in. Brown landed a solid right to the body. In the fourth round the men met in the centre of the ring. Louis connected with hard rights and lefts to Brown’s face which was becoming puffy. Brown went to the ropes and Louis landed a terrific right, ending the fight. Meanwhile the promotor, Joe Foley, announced that Chicago arrangements had been completed for the LouisBraddock title bout at Comiskey Park instead of Soldiers’ Field on June 22. Louis and Braddock are scheduled to appear during the day for the formal contract-signing ceremony.
