Sunshine Club Members Re-unite

ANOTHER SEASON COMMENCED. Members of the Palmerston Nortn Sunshine Club met for the first time this year at the residence of Mrs A. W. Just, Obllege street, yesterday aftefhoon when a very pleasant time was spent in delightful surroundings. The hostesses for the occasion were Mesdames Just, B. F. Mitchell and L. Plank, and Mrs Doherty, a vice-president, officiated in the absence of the president, Mrs E. L. Christian. Sympathy was expressed with the relatives of the late Mrs Griggs, and with Mrs W. J. Croucher in the loss of a sister. Greetings were conveyed for the coming year from Mrs Christian. In the drawing-room, where entertainment was offered, were lovely bowls of hydrangeas, intermingled with pentstemon and gladioli, golden gleam nasturtiums and sprays of coral tree ornamenting the hall. In the diningroom, where a delicious buffet tea was later served, carnations and gypsophila were attractively arranged. With a cold wind blowing, members preferred to stay indoors and chat together with interludes provided by Joan Lynch and Noelino Peren who gave recitations, also Miss Grant, who gave a travel talk. This month’s guinea contribution will be made to the Y.M.C.A. and a doll cosy donated by Mrs Watson, was won by Mrs Weller. Among those present were Mesdames W. J. Croucher, E. A. Shaw, J. Galland, W. Mouldey, C. Louisson, D. Watson, J. W. Ridley, K. V. Walker, Vaughan, 11. Palmer, Weller, Cushing, Bovis, H. Garner, Waller, M. Jones, Schildt, Robinson, Misses Anderson and Piercey. At the close of tho afternoon opportunity was taken by most of those present to view tho treasures in Mr Just’s museum and to admire his aviary wherein are housed canaries, gay parakeats and the budgerigars.
