Cosy Theatre, Woodville

“THE COWBOY AND THE LADY” A lively chapter to the screen’s history of romantic comedy has been added by Samuel Goldwyn, who selected titian-haired, langorous Merle Oberou as the lady who gaily steals the affections of strong, silent Gary Cooper in “The Cowboy and the Lady,” the comedy romance which screens at the Cosy Theatre to-night and to-morrow. The picture introduces the flashing, brunette beauty of Merle as a new and exciting foil for the romantic, outdoor type so

completely personsified by Cooper. She plays the part of an unconventional society debutante, the daughter of a Senj - tor with presidential aspirations, and the role gives her a chance to be gay, charming, witty and the young person she is. Merle runs out of the social register into the cowboy life of Gary, and it’s after wedding bells have climaxed the romance that things begin to happen in fun-provoking fashion. In a word, lovely Miss Oberon who cinematically used to be exotic and tragic, now has a chance to be “herself,” to appear as the wholesome, beautiful modern young woman she is in real life. As a background for his now romantic team, Mr. Goldwyn has endowed his production with his usual, uncanny magic, with featured roles assigned to such film favourites as Patsy Kelly, Walter Brennan, Fuzzy Knight, Mabel Todd and Henry fvolker.
